The “Power Battery Industry Development Index (2024)” has been released, reflecting the current state of the domestic and international power battery industry and tracking the trends of industry evolution. The index is divided into three dimensions: Global Index, China Index, and Enterprise Index. The selection of indicators follows the principles of strong relevance, independence, dynamism, and availability, which index the complex and multi-dimensional development of the industry, reflecting its dynamic changes and annual progress.
Global Index:
Asian countries show a clear advantage, with China, South Korea, and Japan ranking at the top three. China leads in all dimensions, with a global lead in industrial scale; South Korea excels in both industrial scale and innovation capabilities; Japan has strong innovation capabilities. Compared to last year, Poland and Hungary have entered the top ten for the first time, mainly because they have become key countries for investment in the European power battery industry, and the release of power battery capacity has driven the supporting construction of the upstream industrial chain.
China Index:
Jiangsu, Fujian, Guangdong, Sichuan, and Hubei rank in the top five. Jiangsu leads in the fields of battery materials and battery manufacturing, Fujian stands out in capacity and technological innovation driven by the leading enterprise CATL, Guangdong has advantages in upstream materials and innovation capabilities, and Sichuan has great potential in battery capacity and green manufacturing. Compared to last year, Zhejiang and Guizhou have entered the top ten for the first time, with Zhejiang showing a prominent performance in green manufacturing and battery recycling, and Guizhou fully leveraging its advantages in battery resources and materials industry to drive the development of the power battery industry.
Enterprise Index:
CATL, LG New Energy, and Panasonic rank in the top three in terms of enterprise scale, innovation capabilities, and sustainable development. CATL has a clear advantage in scale and has laid out in the field of green manufacturing in advance, LG New Energy has excellent international performance, and strong global support capabilities, Panasonic has outstanding innovation capabilities, and BYD’s battery installation has greatly increased. SK On and Zhongke New Energy have improved their rankings compared to last year, mainly due to the significant increase in installed capacity, which has led to an increase in turnover.
